Dulcolax is an over-the-counter medicine that contains the active ingredient bisacodyl
Bisacodyl works by having a laxative effect when it comes into contact with the colonic mucosa
The intestinal contents become softer and pass through the intestine more quickly
Used for constipation or for preparation before X-ray examinations and operative interventions in adults and children over ten years of age
The suppositories have a quick effect and work after approximately 20 minutes
When a bowel movement has taken place, the colon is emptied. It may therefore take a few days before you need a bowel movement again. Dulcolax works in the lower part of the gastrointestinal tract and has no effect on the digestion or absorption of calories or essential (vital) nutrients in the small intestine. Should only be used for short periods, maximum one week. Read the package insert before use.
